We’re George & Shelly — the faces behind Off The Track 4x4 — along with our adventure pup, Koda.

Originally from Sydney, we made the life-changing decision in 2026 to leave the “normal” behind, pack up our Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series and Lifestyle Reconn R4, and hit the road full-time to travel Australia indefinitely.

 

What started as weekend camping trips and annual adventures has turned into the lifestyle we always dreamed about — living on the road, exploring this incredible country, and sharing every part of the journey along the way.

 

We’ve been travelling together since we met in 2003, and our love for adventure has only grown stronger over the years. From rugged 4WD tracks and remote outback campsites to iconic destinations and hidden gems, our passion lies in discovering the places many people drive straight past.

 

Australia is a huge, beautiful country, and while we’ve already explored extensively throughout, we know there are still many new and exciting places to be found.

We created Off The Track 4x4 to document our travels, share honest experiences, useful tips, campsite ideas, 4WD adventures, and hopefully inspire others to chase their own version of adventure — whatever that looks like.  Because life really is too short to wait for “someday.”​​​

Shelly – The Planner

Shelly is the planner and organiser .....  Trip planning, research, route mapping, campsite hunting, content creation, social media, website design, photography and making sure we never run out of snacks — that’s all Shelly!  There are checklists, Trello boards, spreadsheets and apps for everything!

George – The Mechanical Mind

George is our 4WD expert and the reason our gear is always road-trip ready.  From vehicle maintenance and modifications to tyres, wheels, recovery gear and all things mechanical — George makes sure we can tackle whatever Australia throws at us.  He is also responsible for 99% of the driving… although that number drops quickly when there’s a challenging off-road track or river crossing involved.

Koda – Chief Adventure Dog

Koda, our Pocket Bully, is the laziest member of our team, by far!  She loves beach runs, sitting by the campfire, naps and meeting new people.  Some people say travelling with a dog is too restricting, and yes it can be at times, but we wouldn't have it any other way.  Can't imagine our little girl not joining us on this adventure.

We genuinely believe adventure is for everyone.  You don’t need the “perfect” setup, unlimited money, or all the answers before you begin — you just need to start.  Our goal is to show the reality of life on the road — the incredible moments, the challenges, the lessons, and the laughs — while helping others feel inspired and confident enough to get out there and explore.  Whether it’s a weekend away, a bucket-list trip, or your own lap of Australia… go for it.

There are too many amazing places to see and too many memories waiting to be made.
